Blocky saysThe EVM is the runtime that executes contract bytecode identically on every node.
The Ethereum Virtual Machine is a stack-based virtual computer. Solidity/Vyper compile to EVM bytecode; every node runs it deterministically so all agree on the result and resulting state. It's sandboxed (a contract can only touch the chain), and its determinism is essential — randomness and external calls must be handled carefully. "EVM-compatible" chains run the same bytecode, which is why tooling ports easily.
Power-ups you unlock
Stack-based VM running contract bytecode
Deterministic → all nodes agree on state
Sandboxed to the chain
EVM-compatible chains share tooling
Double-Spend Dan attacks — common mistakes
Expecting non-deterministic operations to work
Assuming contracts can call the outside internet
Ignoring that all nodes re-execute every contract
Boss battleExplain why EVM determinism is non-negotiable for consensus.
